A native Angelino, Joseph began his involvement in real estate shortly after receiving his degree from the University of Oregon. After graduation Joseph moved to Portland, where he was immediately hired as the in-house leasing manager of a groundbreaking and successful urban renewal project in the Old Town section of the city. He worked directly with the visionary developer Bill Naito, who is credited to this day with resuscitating much of the old downtown area in that city.
Some years later, upon returning to Los Angeles, Joseph’s interests in design led him to launch a successful women’s clothing design and manufacturing business boasting high-end clients such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Nordstroms and other quality North American Retailers. His years in the business required extensive travel to Asia, Europe and markets throughout the United States where he negotiated contracts with suppliers and retailers and developed lasting working relationships.
After 20 plus years, Joseph decided to leave the fashion business and once again return to real estate where he began his career as a realtor with DBL Realtors in Beverly Hills.
Joseph’s design background and extensive negotiating skill has provided helpful insights to his clients, including a number of developers and home owners with whom he consults regularly. In 2009 Joseph decided he needed to do more so, along with several of his friends, he completed construction of an AIA award winning LEED Platinum home in Venice, California. More recently, as the opportunity to build an ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit) became possible here in Los Angeles, Joseph built a ground up architectural ADU at his home. From these experiences he has been able to further inform and offer guidance to clients and homeowners who have reached out, and through blogs and informative correspondence.
As a fervent environmentalist, he has taken part in conservation and education efforts towards sustainable living and community projects. Past positions include Sub-Committee chair for 11th District Councilman Bill Rosendahl’s Empowerment Congress’s Sustainability Committee and a past member of the Beverly Hills Greater Los Angeles Board of Realtors Green Committee.
Outside of his profession as a realtor, Joseph has a number of interests. He is a founding member of the Mar Vista Farmers Market where he serves as Secretary on the Board of Directors. Joseph also serves on the Board of Directors of the University of Oregon Alumni Association finance committee. Yoga, playing music, hiking with his wife Barbara, golf, and sport fishing are among Joseph’s favorite past times.
